Happy Pitchers and Catchers!
Not a ton of news to report yet, just hours in to the first official day of Spring Training, but we would be remiss (or even more remiss than is usual for us) if we didn’t take a moment to wish everyone a very, extremely, exceedingly grateful and happy pitchers and catchers report day. This off-season has felt positively endless, I’m sure in no small part to the absence of the Bay Area’s most beloved son, Buster Posey. But have no fear! Buster has been catching bullpens in Arizona for a few weeks now and, despite Bochy’s insistence that he will be eased in to his workload until likely the second week of exhibition games, all seems right with the world for the moment, at least.
Schulman, Baggs, and Pavlovic have all the details there are at this early stage, so as usual, check them out. It seems to all boil down to about what I expect most of us predicted. It’s going to be a lot of wait and see with guys like Buster Posey, Freddy Sanchez, and Brian Wilson in terms of how they bounce back from injuries that were varying degrees of devastating, and the exact roster configuration (especially the battle royale between Huff, Belt, and Pill) is going to be as big a question throughout the next weeks and probably months. Thankfully, we all know Bochy is not someone to have ever shied away from roster monkeying. Or maybe not thankfully. I don’t even know any more. At least the Giants haven’t gotten kicked out of any Asian countries lately?
I also want to take a moment to say a big thank you in honor of our one year anniversary that passed just a few days ago, both to my lovely and talented partners in crime and to all of you equally lovely people who have for some reason decided our ramblings were worth a bit of your time and digital scratch to read. It’s been equal parts fun, tiring, and bordering on obsessive compulsive keeping this thing alive, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
In parting, have a picture of my Fan Fest haul from, yes, this year. Not 2008. I swear. It just looks like it.
